Sea World Hours
Sea World San Diego is open all year, rain or shine, with their hours varying according to the holidays. You will find this San Diego Attraction open later on holiday weeks and weekends.
For most of the winter through spring, traditional hours of opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 6 p.m. is posted.
The summer brings new shows and later hours. Be sure to stay for the fireworks display at 9 p.m.!
It's best to check the Sea World hours and show schedule for the most up to date information, and even that page has a disclaimer regarding hours are subject to change without notice.
What to expect
One of the most visited San Diego tourist attractions, Sea World San Diego, is a must see activity for the whole family. You will find plenty of tot lots with active things to do, and elementary age children will be fascinated with all the sea aquariums and shows.
The walk-through aquariums are amazing. You can spend as much or little time at each exhibit as you please.
A few of the exhibits are touch and feel, hands on type of experiences that you will not want to miss.
When is the last time you touched a starfish or petted an urchin?
Plan to see all the shows by picking up a schedule of events for the day. These shows are the heart of this San Diego Attraction, and not to be missed. Arrive at each show a bit early for the better seats.
There are several rides that the older child will enjoy, as well as most adults, that are included with your admission to Sea World San Diego. Some have height requirements.
There are two rides that are extra, the Skyride and Skytower. Personally, there is so much to do and see at Sea World California, you won't be missing a thing if you don't ride them.
During the summer months, fireworks are displayed at 9 p.m.
What to bring
Pack a light jacket or sweater for the months of January through May. June opens up with longer days and warmer weather. The locals can be seen sporting only tee shirts and shorts with flip flops.
Bring your camera, and consider bringing a few zip type bags to keep them dry as you get up close and personal with Shamu!
A disposable waterproof camera is recommended so that you catch all the action, if you elect to sit in the "soak zone" (and that is the appropriate name for those seats!)
Sunscreen is always recommended, and perhaps a brimmed hat to keep the glare down along with sunglasses.
Outside food is not allowed, but you may bring in our own water bottles. You may get a hand stamp and enjoy your own tailgate party food in the parking lot. Then return for the rest of the day.
