8,000 participate in the Carlsbad Half Marathon
This year the weather was picture perfect for the annual Carlsbad Half Marathon and the Carlsbad Marathon 2010. But what else could you expect while in San Diego?
The 2010 Carlsbad Half Marathon event out shined the past years with record participants and attendance. Watch the stunning rendition of our National Anthem, sung by Kesha Monette, and then as the runners take off in the first wave:
The determination in their faces reflected the pure pleasure arising from their year long training and determination to finish their goal.
All along the course, entertainment helped to cheer the athletes along their way.
The wave start helps to level the field at this half marathon.
A shoe tag is assigned to each runner who then attaches this tag to their shoe.
A chip in this tag keeps accurate accounting of the runner's progress and time.
A record number of athletes, 10,000, participated in the 2010 half marathon.
The roar of the crowd was near deafening as the first woman runner crossed the line.
This year the women outnumbered the men, and many men as well as women pushed young soon-to-be-marathoners in strollers as they ran the course.
The weather was picture perfect, and the elation of finished goals was apparent on most every face that came through the finish line.
Hugs and kisses all around. Old friends were revisited and the camaraderie was thick.
The participants I interviewed all remarked at how well run this event is and how each year is better than the year before.
Parking is not a problem, and the over 2,000 volunteers help to maintain an excellent experience.
19 gracious charities all donated time, money and supplies to the Carlsbad Marathon 2010 ensuring that this event would be truly successful.
This race finisher takes a quick break before heading into the vendor tent to receive his participant package, free samples and more.
The total prizes awarded totaled $17,500.
Brian Baker from Beumont, California was the 2010 Half Marathon Champion with a finishing time of 2:18.39
The 2011 Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon has not as yet been announced. The most likely date will be january 22, 1011. We hope to see you there!
