Batiquitos Lagoon
A most enjoyable time can be had strolling the Batiquitos Lagoon any afternoon. Soft ocean breezes will keep you cool as you hike the easy 3 mile trail from end to end.

An osprey is often seen greeting visitors from high up the eucalyptus tree at the trail head, spying the jumping mullet in the clear lagoon waters. My favorite part of this trail are the large Canary Island Date Palms, farther down the trail. |
Their majestic canopy makes for a nice contrast to the clear ocean skies. Several smaller birds can be seen nesting in their fronds. This free outdoor activity is best enjoyed just about anytime of year!
With the mild climate in Carlsbad Beach, outdoor activities such as this hike is pleasurable when ever the urge for an outdoor activity arises.

Wide easy trails are suitable for strollers and I have seen visitors with walkers easily navigate the trail. Dogs are permitted, on leashes, and there is ample parking at two trail head locations. Be sure to stop in at the nature center which is located partway down the trail. This was the first hike I reviewed from this book, 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles. I can highly recommend this book for any outdoor enthusiast. Each hike is rated for skill level and you are able to pull up a hike according to mountain hikes, beach hikes, etc. Order your copy and get outside! |
Fishing is permitted at the point, with a fishing permit. I witnessed a fisherman with a nice sized Halibut recently.

The docents offer guided nature walks throughout the year. Each walk focuses on a specific area of the vast lagoon. Plan to join several of these outdoor activities while visiting Carlsbad Beaches. |
